Leg Thread Vein Removal in Cheltenham

Here at CYGNINI CLINIC we can help you deal with unwanted thread veins on your legs using our Elite MPX Laser Workstation

What are thread veins?

Thread veins are small veins that run just below the skins surface. They are very common in both men and women, but can be considered embarrassing or unsightly.

What causes thread veins on the legs?

Thread veins in legs tend to develop as we age and our skin and blood vessels become less elastic. Problem thread veins may be inherited, however hormonal changes associated with pregnancy and the menopause are also a cause. Other causes include too much sunbathing, exposure to extreme temperatures, cortico-steroid medicines and radiotherapy. Jobs that involve prolonged standing are thought to make the condition worse.

How are thread veins treated?

Laser is a fantastic, non-invasive treatment for thread veins up to 3mm in size. Here at Cygnini Clinic we use our Cynosure Elite MPX Workstation to quickly and effectively treat unwanted thread veins. Short pulses of intensely concentrated laser beams are used to target the vein so that it is broken down and harmlessly absorbed back into the bodies own waste system. Each treatment takes around 25 minutes and clients usually see results after 2-3 treatments.

For larger thread veins sclerotherapy is also available at Cygnini Clinic. Sclerotherapy uses a tiny needle to inject solution directly into the vein. The solution causes microscopic damage to the cells lining the vein, forcing blood to be redirected through healthier veins. After sclerotherapy the vein gradually shrinks and disappears over about eight weeks.

Will my thread vein treatment be painful?

Your thread vein treatment should not be painful. Whilst the laser uses heat to break down the vein, cool air is also used simultaneously to counter act any discomfort that could be felt. The individual pulses of the laser happen very quickly and most clients find this treatment very easy to tolerate.

Sclerotherapy is carried out by a doctor and does not require anaesthesia. Some clients may feel mild stinging when the needle and solution are inserted. The number of injections needed will depend on the amount and size of the veins to be treated.

Are there any risks or side effects to thread vein treatment?

As facial thread veins are usually very small, effective treatment can be achieved using low levels of laser energy making this a very safe treatment. There may be some redness and swelling following your thread vein treatment but this will usually disappear within 24-48 hours. Occasionally there can be some bruising and minor changes to the skins texture may occur. However all of these things can be significantly limited by a sensible approach to aftercare.
